The agreement between the parties was really Pulcinella’s secret, as it had been a fact for several weeks now, although it lacked official status. Today this has arrived: Joan Mir has signed with Honda HRC and will be the Japanese manufacturer’s rider starting from 2023.
The 2020 world champion will thus be Marc Marquez’s new teammate for the next two seasons, having signed a two-year contract with Honda, and will be riding the new RC213V with which he will be chasing the second world champion of his career.
The announcement was made by Honda with a short, wordless press release from the rider and team management. This goes like this:
“Honda Racing Corporation is proud to announce the signing of Joan Mir. The 2020 MotoGP World Champion has established himself as a world-class talent since his first full season in Moto3 in 2016”.

“In 2017 the number 36 took the crown of the light class aboard a Honda, before moving on to the intermediate class the following year”.
“In addition to two world championships, the Spanish rider has taken 12 Grand Prix victories and 33 podiums. The 24-year-old will compete on the Honda RC213V in the Factory Team with a two-year contract alongside Marc Marquez.”
Mir, after Suzuki’s farewell to MotoGP at the end of this season, will take the place of Pol Espargaro, who will return to racing for KTM after leaving her 2 seasons ago to try the adventure with Honda. The 24-year-old Spaniard will have the task of making his own contribution to revive the performance of a very disappointing bike, especially in recent seasons when Marquez, due to the bad accident, was unable to give direction to its development.
Honda, for its part, returns to field 2 world champions in the category after having already done so on the last occasion when it was able to field Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo. In that case, however, the Majorcan did not manage to settle in and at the end of the year his adventure in MotoGP ended.
