Never-ending happiness
It is the day of the first victories for the teams and drivers in the cadet categories of Formula 1 in Monte Carlo: while in Formula 3 we witnessed the first success of Nikola Tsolov, in the Sprint Race of Formula 2 the first joy for Taylor Barnardwho thanks to this result gave the team the first success at the same time AIX Racingpreviously known by the name of PHM and which is showing great growth after the 3rd place obtained in Imola by Joshua Durksen.
Race report
During the Monte Carlo Sprint there was no overtaking in the top areas of the standings, with Barnard who, despite a less brilliant start than Bortoleto’s, still managed to maintain the lead over the Brazilian, who was in turn followed by Hauger and Antonelli. Also during the first lap, at the exit of the Sainte Devote, Victor Martins collided with the barriers, with the race immediately neutralized by the Safety Car entering the track. Even at the restart, once the Frenchman’s car had been removed, there was no overtaking maneuver between the first four drivers, who with their pace managed to generate a good gap on their pursuers. A gap canceled out a second time during the 6th lap, this time due to Martì’s impact with the barriers at the exit of the Piscine. The scenario of the top-4 being faster than the rest of the group was repeated from the ninth lap, with Antonelli particularly threatening in the exhausts of Hauger, despite not completing the overtaking on the Norwegian. An attempt also thwarted by the third interruption on lap 24, this time with the exposure of the Red flag for the championship leader’s spin Zane Maloney at the height of the Rascasse. The Barbadian, after having rear-ended O’Sullivan, lost control of his car, with Maini being blamelessly involved in the accident. A bottleneck that forced the stewards to suspend the race, with the restart launched for the last four laps. Another restart which did not change the final classification in any way, with Barnard thus achieving his first victory in Formula 2. Bortoleto and Hauger finished on the podium, while Antonelli equaled his best result in Formula 2 dating back to 4 1st place in the Melbourne Feature Race. Extra point for the Bolognese thanks to fastest lap of the race achieved in the last round. Bearman is out of the points, 11th with his Prema and having difficulty with the steering following an Anthony Noghes-style impact. Appointment with Formula 2 set for tomorrow at 12.15pm for the Feature Race, live on Sky Sport F1 and deferred at 2.20pm free-to-air on TV8.
