Florida — The infielder of the red sox from boston Justin Turner I need 16 stitches after it was struck with a ball to the face in an exhibition duel on Monday against the Detroit Tigers.
The 38-year-old baseball player collapsed after being hit by a pitch from right-hander Matt Manning. Medical personnel rushed to the plate, and Turner left the field bloody and with a towel over his face.
Turner’s wife, Kourtney, posted on Instagram that the infielder needed “16 stitches and he’s swollen, but thank God he doesn’t have a fracture and the MRI came back negative.”
“He is receiving treatment for a soft tissue injury and is being monitored for possible concussion,” the team said in a statement. “Justin is stable, alert and in good spirits under the circumstances.

The two-time All-Star signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Red Sox in the final offseason after spending nine years with the Dodgers. He hit .278 with 13 home runs and 81 RBIs in 128 games last season.
