The Mexican delegation that will address the implementation of a joint strategy in the United States to combat illegal arms and fentanyl trafficking in North America arrived at the White House this morning, led by Secretary Rosa Icela Rodriguez.
The Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, expressed that the priority is to stop the trafficking of firearms to Mexicoin addition to the joint collaboration against fentanyl.
Participating in the delegation are Foreign Minister Ebrard; the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez; Admiral Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda Durán, and the Mexican ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma.
Wednesday afternoon, the security cabinet of the Government of Mexico arrived in Washington for a trilateral meeting with their counterparts from the United States and Canada, where they will discuss the implementation of a joint strategy to combat the illegal arms and fentanyl trade in North America.
The mission is headed by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, representing the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
Rosa Icela Rodríguez was designated as the counterpart of Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, White House national security adviser, and Jody Thomas, deputy minister of Canada’s Department of National Defense.
The rest of the Mexican delegation includes the Secretary of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval; the Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda; the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, and the head of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), Audomaro Martínez.
In addition, the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer; the head of the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), Alejandro Ernesto Svarch; Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma, and the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Unit for North America, Roberto Velasco.
This Thursday, the delegations of the three countries will have bilateral and trilateral meetings to coordinate on public health and safety.
A meeting between Mexico and the United States is scheduled at the White House, a working lunch at the Department of Justice and, later, the Canadian delegation will join the trilateral security meeting.
