As absolute ruler of the 2023 Formula 1 world championship, the Red Bull he easily conquered the two poles up for grabs in Spielberg, then associating the victories in the Sprint and the Sunday race, all results obtained with disarming ease by Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is showing all his talent and his desire to win on every single occasion, as evidenced by the five consecutive successes, which lead to a partial of 9 victories out of 9 championship appointments by Red Bull.
The superiority was made even more evident in the final stages of the Austrian race, where Verstappen insisted on stop in the pits and mount soft tires to set the fastest lap and win the additional dedicated point. The two-time world champion achieved his goal, such was the advantage over the second – Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari-, which allowed him to stop in the pits without worries.
Helmut Marko’s comment
The 101st win in Red Bull’s history has been described by Helmut Markoteam adviser: “What just ended was the perfect weekend. Two pole positions, the Sprint and the main race. Double win in the Sprint and first and third place in the race. Perez recovered from 15th to 3rd place and Max set the fastest lap, so he stayed calm and could sleep peacefully. So all is well.”
Just on the dynamics that led to the fastest lap, Marko said: “He started saying in the garage that the tires weren’t right anymore. We knew that if we hadn’t given him totally new tires, the risk would have been less. He was so far ahead that he didn’t have to risk anything.”. Closing line – in the interview given to Sky Germany – on Sergio Perez: “He put on a great performance. He had an overview in overtaking, he regained his confidence and stretched Alonso in the standings for second place”and on the internal duel in the Sprint: “Sergio didn’t see Max and apologized to him. Everything is fine”.
