São Paulo, 29 – Laticínio Scala, in the market for 60 years and one of the main cheese producers in Brazil, will this year carry out reverse logistics for the packaging of its products sold in 2023. The initiative will take place through the acquisition of Recycling Certificates issued by Eureciclo, the largest certification body for reverse packaging logistics in Brazil.
The National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) – which has reverse logistics as its main instrument – establishes in its guidelines that environmental compensation is achieved by recycling at least 30% of the packaging that is placed on the market. Laticínio Scala will recycle 110% of its packaging.
This percentage corresponds to compensation for 1,129 tons of paper, 445 tons of plastic and 1.5 tons of metal. The result achieved, referring to 2023 packaging, represents 33,800 uncut trees, 110,000 m³ of unconsumed water, 2,800 MW/h of energy saved, 4.5 tons of oil not extracted and 2,824 tons of CO2 not emitted.
Scala’s Environment Coordinator, Cleidomar dos Reis Oliveira, “we will recycle a percentage of waste well above that specified by legislation, because we understand that protecting the environment is part of our values and goes beyond the need to comply with environmental laws. The idea is not only to contribute to environmental well-being, but also to encourage a more responsible and sustainable supply chain.”
Laticínio Scala has four factories, three of which are in Sacramento and another in Salitre, municipalities in Minas Gerais. In addition to these, Scala has an industry producing products for animal nutrition (SCL Agro), a grain storage unit and a modern distribution center.
