A fight between a mother and a teenage boy resulted in a chase and the boy being locked out of the house. The mother had to answer for her actions in court.
Helsinki the district court sentenced the mother, who was born in 1979, to a fine because of an argument that started over a smartphone.
The prosecutor applied for a verdict for the mother for assault and arson. According to the prosecutor, the woman had hit her child and left the child outside in only pants when the outside temperature was only about ten degrees.
Criminal took place in April 2023 in Helsinki.
A mother and a 14-year-old son had an argument, as a result of which the mother announced that she would confiscate the son's phone. However, the boy refused to give it up, which led to a chase around the apartment.
The boy had told the police that the mother had hit him twice. However, the boy told the court that the mother had only tried to catch him.
Its after, the boy ran out of the apartment, apparently to prevent losing his phone. The boy was wearing only pants and socks and no house keys.
The mother had yelled at her son inside for a while and then left for the church. The boy was left in the yard without the keys.
Fortunately, the child had a phone and was able to call his father for help.
Mum denied any violence. However, he admitted that he left the child behind bars. However, according to the woman, it did not pose a danger to the boy.
The charge of assault was dismissed because the boy's story had changed during the trial and the mother's account was consistent.
However, leaving the boy outside in the cold posed a danger to the boy.
The district court sentenced the woman to a 20-day fine for throwing things and ordered her to pay her son 500 euros for the suffering.
