Ostrobothnia today, the district court will issue a verdict or interim verdict regarding the suspected preparation of the school massacre. The prosecutor is demanding a maximum seven-year prison sentence for the 23-year-old woman for preparing a crime against life or health. The woman denies the charges.
In March, the woman went to Isonkyrö school center with a gun and about 190 cartridges. On the day of the act, the woman made a post in the story section of Instagram, through which you could see a video and a so-called manifesto, in which she reveals the background of the suspected crime.
While at school, the woman received a call from someone close to her. The woman left the school, and the police caught her in her yard. According to the prosecutor, the fact that the students she saw at school were younger than she had imagined had an effect on her giving up her intention to commit suicide.
According to the prosecutor, the material seized from the woman’s home shows that over the years she had several plans to kill the school. The woman had been preparing the school murder since 2021, the prosecutor believes.
The prosecutor has demanded a mental examination of the woman. An interim judgment will be given in the case, if the court decides to order the accused to undergo a mental state examination. In this case, the actual verdict would be given only after the investigation is completed.
Defense according to which the charges should be dismissed, because the woman has voluntarily given up the preparation. The woman admits that she has been interested in school murders for a long time and that the plan had features that resemble previous similar acts. However, the defense stated that the thoughts are not punishable.
In the trial, the accused told what he thinks about school deaths today.
“I think I find them as horrible or more horrible than anything here because I’ve been so close to it. There aren’t really any words – other than it’s terrible,” the woman said.
He said that he was ready to carry out his plan while walking to school, but suddenly changed his mind.
“When I saw those people, I realized that I can’t do that, that I don’t want to do that. And it came out strongly that I can’t, I don’t want to. I would never want to do anything like that.”
According to the woman, the decision to leave the school was not influenced by the youth of the students, nor was there actually a phone call with a loved one. He said that he had already begun to hesitate to carry out his plan. According to him, giving it up happened gradually.
“The enthusiasm that was in 2022 has decreased, the passing of time has given me time to think, and in my case it has gone so far that I have rather started to question it and hesitate.”
He said he went to school because he thought it was now or never.
“And I have come to the conclusion that never. … that day I gave up the whole decision and the decision has been confirmed that I did the right thing.”
