We are going through a period very full of anxiety and worries for the future, between the pandemic that is still present and the recent war in Ukraine that has been going on for weeks. In all this situation, the fear of supernatural entities, coming directly from Japan, is also suddenly added. At the beginning of March, a few days ago, we received news that, together with its seal made of intertwined rope, the ancient stone has broken. Sessho-sekithus marking an omen of doom as it is said that an evil spirit from Japanese mythology resided inside, called Tamamo-no-Mae, now therefore free to roam the world. Despite the fear of the most superstitious people, the authorities in the area confirmed that a large crack in the stone had been visible for a long time, which would then break naturally, weakened by rain and atmospheric agents.
The rock had become an attraction in the prefecture of Tochigi, where now only the remains remain, and some members of the tour guides said they were sorry, as it had become the symbol of the area, but they also said that nature has simply , run its course. At the moment the local authorities are wondering what to do with the pieces of the famous stone, and someone is already talking about a possible complete reconstruction, so as to seal the spirit inside again.
Tamamo no Mae is a legendary figure at least a thousand years old: it is said she was a fascinating woman who, unbeknownst to everyone, caused deaths and ailments among humans, even the Emperor himself, but when she was discovered she was revealed to be an evil fox to nine tails; after killing her, the aforementioned stone was created from her body Sessho-seki, capable of killing anyone who would touch it. The most believers are particularly shaken by the story since, according to Japanese folklore, humanity would have been hit by serious curses if it were broken, so, on social media, speculations and theories about it have already started: some claim to have seen the stone to release a toxic gas, others have begun to have visions of ghosts in that area and the most alarmist fear in a possible advent of a Third World War. Most, however, will know it for the decidedly more sweetened version and waifuized present in Fate / STAY NIGHT. In short, in an already uneventful period like the present one, the arrival of ancient curses was just what was missing in this 2022.
