Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz sent a letter to the United Nations Security Council to warn that Iran is stepping up sending weapons to the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah through Syria.
According to the document, to which the Jerusalem Post had access, Katz emphasized that this has been happening since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip and that Israel has the “inherent right” to “defend its territory and its citizens”.
The chancellor highlighted that this shipment of weapons, which include components for air defense systems, drones and missiles, violates UN Security Council resolutions.
“Iran is doing this by land, using the porous Syrian-Lebanese border, as well as by air and sea, in violation of Security Council Resolution 1701,” said Katz, who later commented further in a post on X.
“Iran is the head of the snake. We will not wait much longer for a diplomatic solution in the north. If the dramatic intelligence we have revealed to the Security Council does not lead to change, we will not hesitate to act,” the chancellor wrote.
Hezbollah has been promoting attacks in northern Israel in “solidarity” with Hamas, an Israeli target in Gaza due to the terrorist attacks it carried out in October last year and which left 1,200 people dead. In response, Israel has also carried out actions against the Shiite terrorist group in southern Lebanon.
