Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz said yesterday that Israel will prevent the Spanish consulate from providing services to the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, following Madrid’s decision this week to recognize a Palestinian state.
The move is the latest in the sharp standoff between Israel and Spain, which joined Ireland and Norway in declaring recognition of Palestine as part of efforts to pressure Israel to end the war in Gaza, where the Israeli campaign has killed about 36,000 Palestinians.
Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albarez said that Spain is analyzing Israel’s decision to limit the ability of the Spanish consulate to serve the Palestinians in the West Bank.
He added: “We are talking about occupied territories recognized by the United Nations. We, together with Norway and Ireland, are analyzing the measures that we can take.”
