The OLED tablet market experienced explosive growth in the first quarter of 2024, with a 131% increase in panel shipments compared to the previous year, reaching a new record. According to DSCC’s quarterly report on advanced IT display shipments and technology, this boom is primarily driven by the launch of Apple’s new OLED iPad Pros.
Apple has established itself as the undisputed leader in the sector, capturing 47% of OLED panel shipments for tablets in the first quarter. This success is attributable to the May launch of its two new iPad Pros featuring OLED displays, which were a huge hit with consumers.
The outlook for the OLED tablet market is even brighter for the second quarter of 2024. DSCC expects a further increase of 127% compared to the previous quarter and 333% compared to the previous year, with Apple expected to increase its share of market at 72%. The flagship model, the 13-inch iPad Pro M4, is expected to continue to lead sales.
The future of OLED tablets
The growth of the OLED tablet market is expected to continue beyond 2024. Analysts predict that by 2028 OLED tablets will represent 16% of the global market in terms of units and 55% in terms of revenues. This growth will be fueled by lower prices and growing consumer awareness of the visual benefits offered by OLED technology, as more brands offer OLED tablets.
While Apple’s share is expected to rise to 72% at the expense of most other brands, Huawei is expected to remain in second place at 13%. The 13-inch iPad Pro is expected to lead for the second consecutive quarter with a 38% share, followed by the 11.1-inch iPad Pro with a 34% share and the Huawei Mate Pad Pro 13.2-inch at third place with a share of 5%. Other manufacturers such as Microsoft and Samsung are also expected to see growth in OLED tablet shipments.
