Finland lost its last match to Japan and finished sixth in the World Championships.
Finland games in the World Hockey Women’s World Cup tournament ended in a catastrophic loss to Japan, and the Women’s Lions finished sixth.
This meant that in the next World Cup, Finland would play in the weaker B group, from which only the best three would make it to the quarterfinals. Or at least it was meant to be.
The rules of the tournament website of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF had been updated in the middle of the games.
At least on Tuesday, the rules also stated that the bet for fifth place in the ranking match is a place in the A group of the next games, where the best ranked teams of the tournament will play. You can check the matter in the official rules of the World Cup from the archive version.
On Sunday of the official rules however, mention of the stake in the match had been removed.
Among other things, a hockey journalist wrote about it on Twitter Nicole Haase. His colleagues Donna Spencer wrote that the place in group A would be determined according to the world ranking, i.e. Finland would keep its place.
Regardless of next year’s group, the games played in Denmark were the weakest performance from Finland in history.
The first person in Finland told about the rule change extension.com.
