Floods that struck northern Afghanistan killed more than 300 people in several provinces, according to the United Nations reported on Saturday.
Yesterday, Friday, heavy rains caused rivers to overflow and caused mud torrents in villages and agricultural lands in several states.
Survivors were seen moving on Saturday in muddy streets between damaged buildings.
Baghlan Province (north) is one of the most affected areas, as more than 300 people died there alone, and thousands of homes were destroyed or damaged, according to the World Food Programme.
In a press statement, Rana Daraz, communications officer at the United Nations agency in Afghanistan, said, “Based on current information: 311 people were killed in Baghlan province, 2,011 homes were destroyed, and 2,800 homes were damaged.”

The United Nations International Organization for Migration said at least 218 people were killed in Baghlan.
Officials confirmed that the rains, which fell yesterday, Friday, caused serious damage in Baghlan, Takhar, and Badakhshan, as well as the states of Ghor and Herat (west).
Jan Muhammad Din Muhammad, a resident of the city of Bel Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province, said, “The floods washed away my house and my whole life.”
He added that his family was able to flee to higher areas, but when the weather improved and they returned to their home, “there was nothing left. All my possessions and my house were destroyed.”
He continued, “I don’t know where to take my family… and I don’t know what to do.”
