Two high school students founded their own car wash business. During the first weeks, the washing service ordered for your own backyard has been a success. Services have been ordered especially for Westend and Soukka.
In spring high school students Onni Senol16, and Joseph Benjamin, 16, got excited about starting their own company. A message had come through the schools that the 4H association could get 300 euros in sponsorship money to start your own company.
The idea was born quickly.
“We got out of school and went to the bus stop. We saw so many dirty cars that we thought we had to do something about it,” says Onni Senol.
Nowadays, you can order almost anything from food to clothes shopping to your door. Benjamin and Senol thought that the car wash should also be ordered at home.
Washee started operating about three weeks ago. Before the official opening, Senol and Benjamin practiced by washing family and friends’ cars of different makes and styles.
Customers have not had to wait.
“We have had customers every day until the evening. So yes, this has gone pretty well,” says Senol.
According to Benjamin, customers have particularly praised the fact that the service can be ordered at home.
“Many people can’t bring themselves to take their car to the wash, but it’s easier for them to order a wash in their own yard,” he says.
Laundry services can order anywhere in the Espoo and Kauniainen area. So far, the most customers have been in Westend, Souka and Kauniainen.
“One moped has been washed, but most have been passenger cars,” says Benjamin.
Passenger cars have covered a wide range of different brands.
“For example, there have been Mersu, Porsches and Volvos. Mersues perhaps the most – there have been a lot of them in Westend, for example,” says Senol.
The idea is to continue the company’s operations at least through the summer. If the end of the summer goes well, we will continue the work again next summer.
“Then we also have driver’s licenses and can move faster from one place to another. At the moment we travel by bus and we have the goods in the milk cart”, says Senol.
in Espoo it is precisely defined where and how the car can be washed. If you wash your car in your own yard, you must, for example, make sure that the wash water is absorbed into the soil or poured into the waste water drain, and does not run off into nature, for example through a rainwater well. You may not use strong detergents in your yard.
Many housing associations also completely prohibit washing in the area of the housing association.
Senol and Benjamin assure that they comply with all regulations and the Environmental Protection Act. If it has not been possible to handle the washing in an environmentally friendly way, they have had to decide not to wash the customer’s car.
According to the city of Espoo, the owner of the yard is ultimately the one whose responsibility in such a case is to ensure that the washing done in the yard does not harm the environment.
