In Mexico, workers with formal employment have the right to register in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), which allows them to access health services and other benefits such as pension and retirement.

For those looking to retire, it is crucial to meet the age requirements and weeks quoted according to the IMSS regime under which they are registered.

Workers can start their retirement application from age 60as long as they have covered the required number of paid weeks.

To know the total weeks quotedthe IMSS facilitates an online process through its official portal, where users can enter the section ‘Check your quoted weeks’.

How do I know how many weeks of contributions I have in the IMSS? / Debate

Here, by filling out a form with basic data such as the Unique Population Registration Code (CURP), Social Security Number (NSS) and an email, they can obtain a detailed report.

This report sent to the applicant’s email includes the number of weeks quotedprevious employers and the contributions made by them throughout the worker’s working life.

Regarding the weeks necessary to obtain the pension, there are two different regimes: the 1973 regime and the one after 1997.

For workers who entered the labor force before July 1, 1997, under the previous law, at least 500 quoted weeks and have turned 60 years old.

For those who began working after this date, the 1997 law requires a minimum of 825 weeks quoted for the year 2024.

In addition, they must have a worker identification file provided by the Retirement Fund Administrator (Afore).
