A long goodbye
Honda and Repsol are destined to part ways at the end of this season, marking the end of the most iconic partnership in contemporary motorcycling. The the first signs arrived last year, coinciding with the farewell of Marc Marquez, who fled towards Ducati, but then the partnership held up, albeit downsized; this time, however, the credits seem to have really arrived. The link between the Spanish company – active in the oil and natural gas sectors – and the Japanese giant has in fact lasted since 1995, when the Iberians became main sponsor of the team, undisputed dominator of the 500 class at the time with Mick Doohan.
Historical combination
Over the years all the strongest centaurs have passed at least briefly under the Repsol Honda team insignia And many have achieved glory: in fact, in addition to Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez have also won world titles wearing these colours. Now, however, according to the rumors reported by the site Autosport.com, there are no more margins to continue together. Already this year, with Marquez no longer in the saddle, Repsol has decided to reduce its financial contribution to the team, obtaining in exchange less visibility on the bike’s livery.
Repsol is not leaving MotoGP
Repsol should anyway stay within the MotoGPand, trying to keep its image linked to MotoGP also in the future, especially because the Spanish brand is one of the suppliers of new, more sustainable fuels adopted by the series, with the important objective of reaching the use of 100% non-fossil fuels in the premier class of two-wheelers by 2027.
