Yesterday, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, affirmed the commitment of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to support all international efforts that contribute to achieving security, stability, development and peace in Yemen, for the benefit and well-being of the brotherly Yemeni people.
The General Secretariat stated, in a statement, that Al-Budaiwi’s discussions during his meeting with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in Riyadh, focused on reviewing the latest developments taking place in Yemen.
The statement said that the discussions also focused on many topics, most notably the firm position of the Cooperation Council on supporting legitimacy in Yemen, and ending the Yemeni crisis by reaching a political solution to the crisis, in accordance with the three terms of reference represented by the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and the Security Council resolution. 2216.
Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed what was stated in the statement of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf at its 44th session in Qatar in December 2023, which included full support for the Presidential Leadership Council, headed by Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, and the entities supporting him, to achieve security and stability in Yemen.
The Yemeni government confirmed that the Houthi group has not and will not befriend anyone and cannot be relied upon to reach peace, and everyone knows about its violation of covenants and covenants, pointing out that the Houthis’ presence in places overlooking international navigation will remain a threat and blackmail to the region and the world.
Yesterday, in Aden, the Yemeni Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Mohsen Muhammad Al-Daari, met with the military advisor to the UN envoy to Yemen, Anthony Hayward, and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting, in the presence of the Commander of the Homeland Shield Forces, Brigadier General Bashir Al-Subaihi, discussed developments in the field situation in light of the Houthi attacks on more than one front, the most recent of which was the group’s attack on the Al-Abdiyah front in Ma’rib Governorate, the day before yesterday.
The Minister of Defense said: “The armed forces and all military formations are at a high level of coordination and cooperation to confront the attacks of the Houthi group and the terrorist organizations allied with it, represented by Al-Qaeda and ISIS.”
Lieutenant General Al-Daari explained that the Houthi group cannot be relied upon to reach peace, pointing out its danger to international shipping lines.
The Minister of Defense stressed that the Houthis’ presence in places overlooking international shipping lines makes them a threat and blackmail to the region and the world.
For his part, the military advisor to the UN envoy confirmed the continuation of efforts to contain the escalation and return the parties to the dialogue table to reach a road map that leads to lasting peace in Yemen.
