The 'Salvamar Draco' boat, from Salvamento Marítimo, towed a semi-rigid boat with four bodies on board to the port of Cartagena this Thursday night. The first hypotheses suggest that the four people are North African men who intended to reach the Spanish coast and died after drifting for several days without water or food, or due to an accident. The Zodiac-type boat in which they were traveling was found half-sunken, according to sources from the Emergency services.
The macabre discovery took place early Thursday night. Maritime Rescue received a warning about a ship in transit and sent a fast rescue boat to the place where the boat was located, about eleven miles off the Cartagena coast. A patrol boat from the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard also responded to the call. The towing operation lasted until around one in the morning this Friday with good sea conditions.
Waiting for the autopsy
The semi-rigid boat and the four bodies were taken to the workshop dock dock of the port of Santa Lucía, where patrols from the National Police and the Civil Guard, judicial officials and firefighters from the Cartagena City Council were waiting. These officials collaborated to extract the four bodies from the boat, as LA TRUTH was able to verify.
After the first checks at the foot of the dock, they were transferred to the facilities of the Institute of Legal Medicine in Cartagena, where throughout the day this Friday they will undergo autopsies to find out the specific causes of death. The results of the tests will allow progress in the investigations already being carried out by specialized agents.
