The PSOE of the Region of Murcia is in the period of holding the assemblies of the local groups, in which the militants are choosing the candidacies for the municipal elections of 28-M in the 45 municipalities of the Community.
Until this Tuesday, February 28, the different groups have to designate the candidates for mayoralty and the people who will accompany them on the electoral lists, although in some towns, such as the case of Fuente Álamo, the term has been extended by a few days.
At the moment, in the assemblies already held in some municipalities, it is being seen how some of the current PSRM deputies in the Regional Assembly are taking the step from regional to municipal politics, joining the candidacies for the respective municipalities in starting positions. .
As the current Electoral Law prevents combining the position of regional deputy with that of councilor, the inclusion of parliamentarians in prominent positions in municipal candidacies implies their resignation from being part of the future list for the Assembly, which will lead the General Secretary and Government delegate, José Vélez.
One of the most outstanding and surprising marches is that of Antonio José Espín, who in this legislature about to conclude has been second secretary of the Board of the Chamber. Due to his control of Education matters, Espín has been one of the most recognized deputies of the Socialist Parliamentary Group. He will be ‘number two’ on the PSOE list in his hometown, Bullas, which will be led by the mayoress, María Dolores Muñoz. The assembly of the Bullas socialist group approved the candidacy proposal on Monday night, which will now have to be ratified by the PSOE Regional Committee.
But Antonio José Espín is not the only socialist deputy who changes third. Last Saturday, the PSOE of Las Torres de Cotillas endorsed its candidacy and in the same figure, in position number 10, the deputy José Antonio Peñalver, a psychiatrist, who dealt with health issues in this legislature.
In any case, Peñalver already had little chance of continuing in the regional candidacy. As LA VERDAD published, this deputy, very close to Diego Conesa, dared to suggest in the last Regional Committee the convenience of José Vélez stepping aside as a candidate for the Presidency of the Community for his judicial investigation, for the case of the Calasparra Bullfighting Fair.
Beatriz Romero, who was a journalist for regional television and was part of Vice President Isabel Franco’s cabinet until a few months ago, has entered the list of Las Torres de Cotillas.
Likewise, María Dolores Martínez Pay, vice president of the Territorial Policy, Environment, Agriculture and Water Commission, is the ‘number 10’ of the candidacy of Eliseo García Cantó in Molina de Segura, while the doctor Rosalía Casado will be part of the List of Mari Carmen Moreno in Águilas.
All of them are joined by Lara Hernández, who was elected last November as a socialist candidate for mayor of Alcantarilla, for which she will leave the regional list on May 28.
In addition, from the list of 17 members of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, there are others with little chance of continuing, even if they are not going to be included in municipal candidacies. It is assumed that Magdalena Sánchez Blesa, a poet from Alhama, who was a personal commitment of Diego Conesa in 2019, will not continue. Neither will José Antonio Campos, who despite being a deputy never left the job he had outside of politics.
Gloria Alarcón discards herself
One who has ruled herself out, as she declared in an interview with this newspaper, is Gloria Alarcón, second vice president of the Chamber, despite the fact that she was the deputy who promoted one of the great agreements of this legislature, such as the Single Parent Families Law .
Gloria Alarcón was deputy secretary general of the party with Diego Conesa, but she ceased to hold an organic position after the regional congress in which Vélez took over the general secretary of the PSRM.
On the other hand, the deputies whose continuity in the next legislature is taken for granted are Francisco Lucas, Carmina Fernández, Fernando Moreno and Virgina Lopo, people who are fully trusted by José Vélez.
