Yle: Finnish customs auctioned off 100 refugee bicycles
Finnish customs auctioned off most of the bicycles left behind by asylum seekers who arrived in the country in the fall of 2023. About it reports TV and radio company Yle.
It is clarified that the refugees crossed the border from Russia. In total, 100 bicycles were put up for auction, most of them made in Russia. It is noted that some of the vehicles were in good condition, some were clearly maintained. The first bike was sold for 70 euros, one for 120 euros. In addition, a value added tax of 24 percent was added to the auctioned lots. The proceeds from the auction were transferred to the state.
Earlier it became known that Finland has granted asylum to only six refugees who arrived across the border with Russia since August 2023. Ninety-six people were refused. Fifty decisions were appealed to the administrative court.
