FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann describes Chancellor Olaf Scholz as “inaccessible” – and offers a fundamental criticism.
Berlin – The FDP’s top candidate for the European elections, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, has expressed sharp and very fundamental criticism of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s (SPD) political style. “You can’t reach him because he is a blatant know-it-all,” she told New Osnabrück NewspaperThis is reported by the German press agency.
Strack-Zimmermann criticizes Olaf Scholz: Failed at the G20 summit in Hamburg
Strack-Zimmermann first met Olaf Scholz when she personally congratulated him after his election as Chancellor. “From the opposition, I once asked him how someone who had been elected Chancellor at the 2017 G20 summit in Hamburg as First Mayor, he failed so badly in terms of security policy and allowed rioters to turn the whole city to the left,” she said to the New Osnabrück Newspaper.
After his election as Chancellor, the FDP’s top candidate was curious to see how he would perform his duties. The result: “After three years, I have noticed that he has almost autistic traits, both in terms of his social contacts in politics and his inability to explain his actions to citizens.”
Strack-Zimmermann is currently chair of the Bundestag’s Defense Committee and a vocal advocate of extensive support for Ukraine in the war against Russia. In this context, she has repeatedly been noted for harsh criticism of Scholz, whom she repeatedly accused of hesitation in supplying weapons to Kiev. She also sharply criticized the tough discussion on the Taurus delivery to Ukraine.
General criticism: Strack-Zimmermann’s statements do not only refer to Scholz’s Ukraine policy
The FDP defense expert now emphasized that her criticism does not only refer to the Chancellor’s Ukraine policy. “This affects all issues and is also confirmed to me by his party colleagues.”
She accuses the Chancellor of shaping policy solely according to surveys, such as those New Osnabrück Newspaper says. “Moods are measured and then one takes the lead in the movement. The job of a politician is not to tell people what they want to hear, but to shape policy and explain it to fellow countrymen.” (Rebecca Fulle with dpa)
