The layout of the Singapore track is about to change. A part of the Marina Bay city circuit, in fact, will be affected by redevelopment works that will start in March 2023 and will be completed at the end of 2026.
Specifically, according to what was stated in the press release released today by the organizers, “the area called The Float at Marina Bay will be redeveloped in NS Square, a permanent space which, once completed, will be a place dedicated to the community and events, as well as at the National Day parades ”.
“A National Service themed gallery will also be built here, as well as community sports facilities and a new public waterfront promenade. The “NS Square” will illustrate the history of the Singapore National Service and recognize the contribution of the national military ”.

Currently the Singapore track has a length of 5,063 meters and consists of 19 curves. Following the works, the overall length of the track will drop to 4,928 meters and this will lead to an increase in race laps which will be increased to 63.
The area affected by the works will completely change the winding part of the track that goes from curves 16 to 19. These, in fact, will be eliminated to create a single straight with a total length of 397.9 meters, thus bringing the total number of curves at 19 from the current 23.
Of course, lap times will also drop. According to what was communicated by the organizers, on the basis of simulations based on a 2020 Formula 1 car, the best lap time in qualifying should be around 1’27”7, while in the race the reference time should be 1 ’30’ ’34.
The Singapore track, which has become iconic in Formula 1 since 2008 for the first time saw the single-seaters of the highest category racing at night on an artificially illuminated circuit, is therefore preparing to change its skin to try to make life easier for drivers by giving new overtaking points.
