Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers were trained at the Libava training ground
The Libau military training ground is located on the territory of the Olomouc region. It is known that since 2022, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have been trained there. In particular, Ukrainians were trained to “conduct combat operations independently and effectively defend their territory and sovereignty,” Radio Prague reported. The training mission was pan-European, but also served Czech national defense interests.
At the end of December 2022, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers began returning to Ukraine, and it is unknown whether they were there at the time of the explosion.
Earlier, the Czech Republic accused Russia of bombing warehouses in Vrbetica
At the end of April, the Czech Republic accused the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Ministry of Defense of involvement in two explosions at Czech ammunition depots in Vrbetica in 2014. This verdict was made during an investigation jointly with the National Center for Combating Organized Crime (NCOZ).
NCOZ found that Russian military intelligence was involved in the bombings and deaths of Czech citizens, including the fact that this was not the only such action, but part of a long-term program of subversion of Russian military intelligence in the European Union and Ukraine
Explosions at ammunition depots of the German company Imex in Vrbetica occurred on October 16 and December 3, 2014. The shells stored there were intended for sale to Ukraine. As a result of the attack, two Czech citizens did not survive; the damage amounted to more than a billion crowns. In April 2021, Prague accused the Russian special services of involvement in the incident and put on the wanted list the Russians Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, who, as the Czech authorities claimed, came to the Zlín region where the explosions occurred.
