Bill approved in the Chamber of Deputies this Wednesday (May 22, 2024) aims to reduce the impact caused by rain
A Hug (Brazilian Association of Event Promoters) estimates that the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul will cause losses of R$8 billion in the sector. The projection was given by the entity’s president, Doreni Caramori Jr., this Wednesday (May 22, 2024).
“If we start from a projection that only the core business [atividade central de uma organização] of the sector moves around R$75 billion this year, it is possible to calculate an impact of approximately R$8 billion in this projection”, Caramori said.
On the other hand, the businessman believes that the return of activities will be faster than during the Covid pandemic, when the events sector was one of the last to be normalized.
“The events sector, in that period, was considered a big villain, due to the crowds. In this case of Rio Grande do Sul, this rule does not apply. The only rule that makes the events segment have a greater impact than others is that it is an activity in which realization and purchases are planned”he said.
According to data from the Ministry of Labour, there are 4,471 companies in the segment in the State. Porto Alegre alone has 1,175 of them, being the 9th city in the country in terms of number of companies. In total, there are 7,829 jobs in the Rio Grande do Sul sector.
The rains began to intensify in Rio Grande do Sul on April 28. According to the latest bulletin from the State Civil Defense, the floods have already left 162 people dead. There are still 75 missing. Furthermore, it is estimated that 2.3 million people and 467 municipalities have been affected.
PL REQUIRES IMMEDIATE REFUND
The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday (May 22) the PL (Bill) 1564 of 24which allows tourism and cultural companies contracted prior to the tragedy to reimburse customers until 2025. Events and services can be rescheduled.
The rules apply to cinemas, theaters and digital platforms for selling tickets online, to providers of cultural and tourist services and to companies that provide tourism services.
For the president of Abrape, the text aims to regulate the situation of canceled or postponed events and mitigate the losses of companies.
“It is extremely important, as it takes the exclusive pressure off the sector of having to return funds from an event that did not happen, not because of the sector’s fault, but for climate reasons”he said.
