Newborn a child and his mother were rescued from the ruins of the earthquake in Turkey on Friday. The news agency Reuters and the British Broadcasting Corporation report on the matter, among others BBC.
A mother and a ten-day-old child were found in the rubble of a collapsed building in Samandağ, Hatay province. They had survived in the ruins for four days.
The small child was carried wrapped in a blanket and the mother on a stretcher to the ambulance.
Among others, the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem İmamoğlu wrote about the rescue of the child and mother on Twitter.
Amazingly the described rescue operation has brought hope to the search for victims, which has been ongoing for the fifth day in Turkey and Syria. The cold weather conditions have weakened the survival chances of earthquake victims.
According to Reuters, at least seven children have been rescued from the ruins in Turkey on Friday. Among other things, a crying toddler was found in the ruins in Kahramanmaraş. Silence has been requested during rescue operations so that the victims’ possible cries for help can be heard.
Earlier this week, the rescue of a newborn from the ruins in Syria made headlines. On Friday, among others, a British newspaper The Guardian reported that the baby girl was named Aya. The baby, who lost his family in the earthquake, is said to be moving to his great-uncle for treatment after being released from the hospital.

A 27-year-old woman was rescued from the ruins in Hatay, Turkey on Friday.
Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has described the devastation of the earthquake as the “disaster of the century”. The number of victims of the earthquake was already over 21,000 by Friday afternoon. Most of the victims are Turkish.
Among other things, the Turkish opposition has criticized that preparedness for earthquakes has not been sufficient, and has questioned the use of funds collected for natural disasters.
