Less than seven days before the Portuguese GP held in Portimão last Sunday, the Ducati Lenovo Team is preparing to return to action this weekend for the sixth round of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship, the Spanish GP. Once again, the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto who last year saw the Italian team win an extraordinary double with Jack Miller on the top step of the podium and Pecco Bagnaia second. The Australian driver had achieved his first success of the year on that occasion, giving the turning point to a difficult start to the season. Fresh from retiring in Portimão, Miller is determined to repeat the good performance of 2021 at Jerez.
Even Pecco Bagnaia, eighth last week after a beautiful comeback from the last position on the grid, wants to be among the protagonists again and shorten the distance from the leader of the Quartararo classification, trailing by 38 points at the moment. After the first five rounds of the season, Bagnaia is in tenth position on equal points with Miller in ninth place. Ducati, which at Jerez has a total of eight podiums including two victories, remains in first position in the constructors’ classification with an advantage of 36 points over KTM in second position.
Jack Miller: “I’m happy to be back on track already this weekend and to be able to leave the retirement in Portimão behind me. Jerez is a track that I like and where I certainly have beautiful memories after last year’s victory, my first on Ducati, which came right after a crash in the Portuguese GP. It would be nice to be able to win again this year. Racing in Spain is always special because the Spanish fans are very passionate and make the atmosphere unique. I will try to do my best to get the best possible result “.
Francesco Bagnaia: “After the crash in qualifying in Portugal, these days off were very important to rest and recover strength. Despite the pain and the fact that we weren’t able to lap a lot on slick tires, we were fast in the race on Sunday and managed to hit the target we had set for ourselves. This shows that we are working well and that race after race my feeling with the Desmosedici GP continues to improve. Now we come to Jerez, where last year we got on the podium, with the aim of finally returning to being among the protagonists of the weekend ”.
