Cocaine, divided into 400 loaves for a value of about 30 million, was hidden in 14 bags inside a container carrying coffee from Brazil. On the day of arrival, the yellow flames had placed some “suspicious” containers in a video surveillance area of the port terminal, with a ban on handling. During the night, the investigators had noticed, live, a man who with a fifth wheel was looking for one of the caissons to move it to an area without cameras. At that point the financiers intervened and arrested the camallo.
According to investigators of the Genoese DDA, the drug was destined for organized crime that bribes workers to be able to unload the drug in port with the so-called rip-off system which consists in placing the drug immediately behind the doors of the container so that it can be easily picked up by traffickers during the stop of goods in port areas. Investigations are underway to identify the accomplices of the port and the recipients of cocaine.
In mid-January, another 412 kilos of white powder had been seized in the port of La Spezia.
