NYP: Actress Jane Seymour puts 16th-century estate up for sale for $16 million
British actress Jane Seymour, known for the historical drama Dr. Queen: The Female Doctor and Bond, decided to get rid of her Tudor manor. She is asking almost $16 million for an Elizabethan-era mansion put up for sale, she writes. New York Post (NYP).
St Catherine’s Estate is located in the south of England. It was built at the end of the 16th century for the monks of Bath Abbey and is more than 400 years old. Seymour purchased the property in 1984 after falling in love with it while filming the television series Jamaica Inn. After extensive reconstruction, the celebrity rented it out to film studios. In addition, British rock bands Cure, Radiohead and New Order recorded their hits within the walls of this mansion.
The renovation did not affect the original interior – coffered ceilings, plaster carvings and oak floors. The house still has mullion windows and fireplaces. The estate covers 5.7 hectares and includes not only the main house with 11 bedrooms, but also a cottage and a guest house – they house a further eight bedrooms. There is a tennis court and terraces near the estate. In addition, the buyer will receive ownership of an old tithe barn, a greenhouse, apple and cherry orchards.
Previously, the “witch house” from the series “American Horror Story” was put up for sale. Among locals, the property is known as the mansion of Buckner, a cotton magnate who built the building in 1856 to outdo his rival.
