Ex-President Trump had a “special” relationship with North Korea. A journalist gave an insight into the correspondence between the two men, which has more to do with “love letters” than with diplomacy.
New York/Munich — Even if he is no longer the US President, Donald Trump always finds his way into the media. This time, a TV interview with reporter Bob Woodward caused a stir. In it he told of the correspondence between the ex-president and the North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un. The two are said to have had a close bond, as the letters suggest.
Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un: love letters instead of diplomacy
The relationship between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un has been a roller coaster in the past. In 2018, a conflict between the two nuclear states threatened to escalate. In 2019, Trump talked about “love.” During a campaign appearance, Trump said Kim Jong-un had written him “beautiful letters.” “They are great letters. We fell in love”, like that Frankfurter Rundschau reported.
Words that may initially sound exaggerated and like Trump rhetoric. But Woodward confirmed that US broadcaster MSNBC the heartfelt words spoken between Trump and Jong-un. “It’s the kind of affection that teenagers might exchange,” he said. “Whoever reads them has to laugh,” Woodward continues. “Kim is courting Trump in a very crude way, saying, ‘When we meet again, it’s going to be like a fantasy movie.’ That’s how Kim felt about it, I think, and to some extent, arguably, how Trump felt about it.”
Donald Trump gave journalist Bob Woodwardund insights into secret documents
The letters were probably no more than that, as the journalist pointed out. There is nothing to be found there about diplomacy, the letters are just funny. “There’s nothing substantial in it,” he said. Woodward was able to gain insight into the letters during his numerous interviews with ex-President Trump. Trump gave him these insights even though the documents were “top secret”.
But this was not an obstacle for Trump, as Woodward said. “I’ll let you take a look. But don’t say I gave it to you, okay?” Trump is said to have said in December 2019. Trump’s morality about secret documents is currently falling on his feet. In August of this year, the FBI found hundreds of documents marked as secret during a raid on Trump’s estate. (vk)
