In 90min we had the opportunity to talk with Dalia Molina, a current Cruz Azul player who had an outstanding stint with the now-defunct Monarcas Morelia and was also part of Club América for a couple of tournaments. She told us about her beginnings in soccer, her stage with Monarcas and the start of this Clausura 2022 tournament of the Liga MX Femenil with Cruz Azul.
How did your career in the world of football begin? What was Dalia Molina like before the Liga MX Femenil?
Since I can remember I have played soccer, I have played soccer since I was little. I was 6 years old when my mom and dad took me to play. I started with children like the vast majority of my colleagues in the League. It was hard for me because there were many teams that told me no because I was a girl. But in the end, I found one that gave me the opportunity, opened the doors for me and that’s where I started, I played there for several years.
I continued playing in the teams of my secondary school, of my high school and from there, I had planned to go play at Tec. de Monterrey and that is when the League was created. So, I saw the opportunity to try Monarcas and I didn’t miss it. My parents fully supported me, they took me to the scouting sessions and thank God I stayed.
Dalia, you scored 19 goals with Monarcas. You become a figure of the team, but the pandemic comes, soccer is canceled and Monarcas ceases to exist and becomes Mazatlán. How did you experience that whole transition?
The truth was a quite complicated transition, quite hard, because nobody told us anything, nobody told us what was happening, we saw everything through networks where they said that it was very likely that the team was going to disappear.
At that time I was captain of the team, so at the time I asked who the Sports President was and he told me, we are all the same, that is, we are uncertain. We don’t know what’s going on, no one knew anything.
I remember perfectly the morning we were watching the moving trucks in the Morelos Stadium on the news and how they began to take things out of the gym and from there they met us by Zoom and told us that the team became Mazatlán and that we were taken consider. That whoever wanted to accompany the project was welcome and whoever did not, was not obliged to participate either.
At first it was hard, because that’s where I started my career and whether you like it or not, you love the team and the fact that it’s one thing to leave because you’re going to grow and another to leave because the team no longer exists. Then, thank God, I received the offer from Club América and that’s when I decided to emigrate from Morelia to Mexico City.
It has been a difficult start for you. You score a goal on the first day, then you get COVID, you miss a couple of dates and then you come back against América and now you score against Pumas too, how are you handling this tournament right now?
Yes, this is a complicated tournament. For starters, because of the Covid. As much as you take care of yourself, you never know when a little carelessness you have will infect you and yes, as you say, in the first game I did very well for the team. Even better because we got the three points and that’s when the Covid arrived, It left me out for 10 days and I missed two games.
And the truth is that it is difficult to return later because you have some sequels. More than anything respiratory and like it or not, here you run and you have to keep running and recovering costs more work.
Against America, unfortunately, it is lost for various reasons, also ours, which we stop doing and then comes the game against Pumas, where a very important point is rescued with that last minute goal that the truth gives us life in the sense that it helps us in confidence to add even more.
Is there any message you have for the fans, for “Daliamolismo” that has grown a lot on social networks?
Just thank them for the support, they are always there waiting for each game, each goal, everything. For the support shown also when I had Covid. And although sometimes I can’t answer all the messages, I read them and I know that the support of the fans is unconditional, it is a unique hobby.
The truth is that they surprised me, especially now in the game against Pumas, who filled the stands as visitors, and that is greatly appreciated. We are going to work to give them much more joy and that is why we ask them to continue there.
