Prime Minister Støre justified the restrictions on the carrying capacity of health care and the omicron transformation of the coronavirus.
Norway announced on Tuesday night that it will tighten its interest rate restrictions, says the country’s broadcaster NRK.
Restrictions include gatherings and liquor. The aim is to reduce people-to-people contacts.
The Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre held a press conference on interest rate restrictions on Tuesday evening at 8 pm Finnish time.
At the event it was reported, among other things, that the use of face masks will become mandatory in shopping malls, restaurants, public transport and taxis if a one-meter safety distance cannot be maintained.
In Norway, there is currently a recommendation to use a face mask in situations where the distance to another person cannot be maintained.
At the press conference it was further stated, among other things, that everyone should keep a safety distance of meters other than their loved ones. Guests should not be invited to their home for more than ten, except for Christmas and New Year celebrations, when there are a maximum of 20 guests.
Perhaps the new restrictions will be most severe on restaurants and bars.
It was said at the event that restaurants should stop serving alcohol at midnight. Restaurants serving alcohol should provide seating for all their customers, unless the restaurant is hosting a cultural event, such as a gig. Restaurants must also guarantee a safety distance of one meter between different parties.
The number of participants in public events will be limited to 50 people if there are no seats available. The maximum number of participants in seats and safety clearances is 200.
The Norwegian government also encouraged teleworking as much as possible and the use of masks in the workplace.
The new restrictions will take effect on Thursday, December 9, and will last for four weeks.
Støre justified the constraints on health care carrying capacity as well as coronavirus omicron transformation. According to Støre, the carrying capacity of health care threatens to be exceeded.
“We had sincerely wished that the coronavirus pandemic was already behind us and that Christmas could have been spent normally. However, the disease situation is still so serious that new measures need to be taken, ”Støre said at a news conference on Tuesday.
A total of 320 coronavirus patients were treated in Norwegian hospitals on Tuesday, NRK says, which is 25 more patients than on Monday.
“We don’t know if the spread of the omicron transformation will result in more coronary patients ending up in hospital. However, the restrictions presented today will give us more time to learn about the variant and vaccinate people, ”says Norwegian Minister of Health. Ingvild Kjerkol said at the event.
In Norway to date, a total of 29 coronavirus infections caused by omicron transformations have been identified. For example In Denmark at least 398 variant coronavirus infections have already been reported. Nine infections have been diagnosed in Finland.
Norway lifted all restrictions on the coronavirus at the end of September, after which the number of infections has risen sharply.
