President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced during his participation in the tenth North American Leaders Summitthe creation of a joint committee for planning and import substitution between the three countries.
The Mexican president announced that it will be made up of 12 specialists, four people from each country, in order to try to be more self-sufficient and make the development, cooperation and well-being of the American continent a reality.
On behalf of the Mexican government, the representatives will be the foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard; Rogelio Ramirez de la OSecretary of the Treasury; Raquel Buenrostro, Secretary of Economy; and the businessman Alfonso Romo.
“The United States, Canada and Mexico will each propose four members for the formation of this group of 12 specialists who, in addition to being knowledgeable about the subject, of the subject in question, will have our absolute confidence to motivate, persuade and convince businessmen, workers and public servants of the three governments about the importance, the transcendence, of uniting in North America and looking forward for union throughout the American continent,” he said.
Likewise, López Obrador commented that in the bilateral meeting with Joe Biden, he proposed an import substitution model with the purpose of producing in America what is consumed, to increase the region’s competitiveness.
