Alpine at Silverstone trusts in updates
Thank goodness, for the Alpinewhich comes immediately after the Austrian Grand Prix Silverstone. At Spielberg, the Enstone team was able to score just three points (two in the Sprint with Esteban Ocon and one in the GP with Pierre Gasly) and in the constructors’ standings, McLaren got close to -18 thanks to the great performances of Lando Norris .
Woking’s rivals will have updates on both cars, and therefore they will be dangerous for Alpine which is responding with an update aimed at giving Ocon and Gasly a few more weapons against increasingly aggressive opponents. Here’s how the two drivers presented the Silverstone challenge.
Ocon’s words
“Silverstone is an iconic track, with a beautiful sequence of high, medium and low speed corners. The famous Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel combination is very fast and beautiful to drive, especially with these high downforce cars. More generally, the circuit is known for its high-speed corners and short straights; moreover, it is a very exposed circuit and therefore the wind can have a significant and often unpredictable effect on all the cars. This weekend we will have an update of the car, therefore we hope to improve our performance after the difficult weekend in Austria. We hope to have a good race in front of all the British enthusiasts, but also many of my team mates who live in the UK as our Enstone factory is not far away. In some ways it will be like a home race and I am looking forward to racing this weekend“.
Gasly’s words
“What I like about consecutive races is the immediate opportunity to race again and prove something. It’s the home race and this adds extra motivation to race for the staff members who will no doubt be in large numbers on the grandstands! Silverstone is one of the most famous and historic circuits in racing. It’s an exciting, high-speed track with some good overtaking opportunities, especially at Turn 3, Turn 6 (Brooklands), Turn 9 (Copse), Turn 15 (Stowe) and Turn 16 (Vale). Silverstone is where I first drove the A523 in February before my Alpine debut, a milestone in my career, as I started a new chapter in Formula 1 with the team. We have made an update for this race, so I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits it will bring to the car. The goal is to have a calm weekend and to score important points for Sunday“.
