Great start, like in Bahrain
Third in PL1, behind the two Red Bulls, and then second in PL2, this time ‘sandwich’ between the two Milton Keynes cars. Everyone rightly continues to underline how the Jeddah track is profoundly different from that of Bahrain, but in the meantime Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso continue to confirm themselves as the second force on the track, behind the seemingly elusive RB19. Alonso in particular can smile given that good sensations arrived on Friday in Saudi Arabia not only from the qualifying simulation, but also from the race pace, in which the two-time world champion proved to be extremely constant, giving the impression of having a slight margin of advantage over the Ferraris in the fight for the podium.
Confident Alonso
Speaking at the end of the day on the microphones of Sky Sports F1 the Asturian rider confirmed the good feelings that had leaked out from the lap results. However, Alonso, who is chasing the 100th podium of his career in F1 in Jeddah, also highlighted some aspects the team still needs to work on: “You never know the real situation until qualifying. But we tried what we wanted to try with the car. I think there isn’t an ideal balance yet, so we need to try and find some more grip tonight. But so far so good. It’s another good start.”.
Stroll’s words
Satisfaction also in the other half of the box, with Lance Stroll who finished FP2 in seventh place: “I felt good – declared the Canadian, referring to his physical condition – I still feel some pain, but not that bad. The whole group looks pretty close together. I mean, even Alpine seems fast. I think it will be a close race. I was surprised to see them so fast. I’m sure Ferrari will be there tomorrow and Mercedes also seems to be doing quite well”.
