The usual suspects
It’s only Friday and the second free practice session, but on the Imola asphalt the atmosphere seems to be already hot among some riders. In the initial phase of the session, two ‘historic’ rivals were teasing each other – on the track and via radio: Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.
Alonso’s anger
It is certainly not the first time that the two veterans of the grid exchanged barbs over the radio and this time it was the Spaniard from Aston Martin who criticized his opponent’s attitude, accusing him of create an obstacle on the track not paying attention to the arrival of other cars. After having, according to him, been slowed down on a couple of occasions, the two-time world champion spoke via radio to his track engineer, ‘denouncing’ a blockade of Hamilton in turn 7 and then in turn 12. The Iberian was also not happy alongside the Mercedes #44so as to make the bearer of the silver arrows himself understand his disappointment in an even more ‘explicit’ way.
Nervousness on the radio
“Hamilton thinks he is alone on the track – Alonso’s outburst, recorded by the on-board radio – it’s the second round that does it. First in turn 12 and now in turn 7“. Soon after even Max Verstappen didn’t like Hamilton’s traffic management, gesturing clearly in the cockpit against the future Ferrari driver, accused of having hindered him during a fast lap. Verstappen then, as ‘retaliation’, also closed the Englishman towards the grass, forcing him to slow down as well. In this case, Hamilton recognized that he had made a mistake and apologized with large gestures towards the Dutch champion.
