The Union's attorney general, Jorge Messias, says that publications about child exploitation in the region create “informational disorder”
The Union's attorney general, Jorge Messias, said this Saturday (24.Feb.2024) that he ordered the PNDD (National Attorney's Office of the Union for the Defense of Democracy) to identify disinformation networks about Marajó Island, in Pará. Child exploitation in the region was discussed again after singer Aymeê sang “Gospel of the Pharisees” on a gospel music reality show.
According to Messias, publications on the topic create “information disorder” about the region. “Let us protect our children without the propulsion of fake news”, declared on your profile on X (formerly Twitter).
The AGU stated that the federal government is committed to investigating “serious allegations” to dismantle networks of human trafficking and sexual and child exploitation throughout the national territory. For Messiah, “the Marajoaras deserve respect and worthy treatment from all public authorities”.
The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, shared the publication of Messias. He declared that he will not allow “defamation of a region per opportunists who take advantage of a serious national problem such as the protection of children and adolescents to leverage political or financial interests”.
The Union's advocate general responded that the AGU (Attorney General of the Union) will fulfill its constitutional attribution, observing the rigor of the law in collaboration with the MPF (Federal Public Ministry) and the PGR (Attorney General’s Office). He also warned about publications that expose the image and identity of children.

In October 2022, the senator and former minister of Women, Family and Human Rights Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) stated during a service in an evangelical church in Goiânia (GO) that he had access to alleged images of children kidnapped with their teeth pulled out for oral sex on Marajó Island.
In September 2023, the MPF filed a public civil action in the Federal Court of Pará that requested the payment of R$5 million by the senator and the Union as a result of unproven reports about scenes of child abuse. Despite citing physical evidence in her report, the former minister did not present any proof when questioned by the Federal Prosecutor's Office for Citizens' Rights and the Federal Public Ministry of Pará.
The MPF action also mentioned that the senator's statements were made during the former president's electoral campaign. Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The agency stated that child abuse scenarios were used to associate the figure of Damares and Bolsonaro with what it called “largest regional development program on Marajó Island”the extinct “Abrace o Marajó”.
