Ghowrin a resident of Chaghcharān, the provincial capital Zahir Zahid told AFP that he and his family fled Friday’s floods as soon as the alarms started. According to Zahid, the family was saved at the last minute, as the flood destroyed the family’s home just five minutes after they managed to escape.
“I saw with my own eyes how the flood destroyed my house. Women and children, all were crying. The flood has washed away a hundred houses in our area, and there is nothing left,” he said.
Head of Provincial Disaster Management Department Obaidullah Muradian said it is an emergency and residents who have fled their homes urgently need shelter, food and water.
“The situation is really worrying,” he stated.
