General Oleksandr Pavlyuk, commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, expected that Russian forces would achieve field progress on the battle fronts before weapons supplies from the West arrived in Kiev.
He said that he expected the current crisis to enter a decisive phase during the next two months, with delays in the delivery of arms supplies to Kiev.
Pavlyuk added, in an interview with The Economist magazine published yesterday, Friday, “Russia knows that if we receive enough weapons within a month or two, the situation may turn against it.”
US weapons supplies slowed for several months, while the aid package proposed by US President Joe Biden was stalled due to disagreements within the US Congress, but this measure was approved late last month.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Ukraine still needs supplies of important weapons “at the right time.”
Pavlyuk conducted this interview before the Russian attack, yesterday, Friday, on areas in Kharkiv, in the northeast of the country.
The Economist magazine reported that Pavlyuk believes that Moscow will continue to focus on its progress in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions in the east.
Pavlyuk said Ukraine still needs more air defenses and is expected to receive a batch of F-16 fighter jets.
