Rescuers reached a Russian tanker drifting in the ice
The rescue ship Bering Strait arrived at the tanker Sakhalin Island stuck in the ice in the Sea of Okhotsk. About it TASS said the head of the maritime rescue coordination subcenter in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Mark Korzhenko.
The Bering Strait should take care of the ice support of the tanker.
“Sakhalin Island” was blocked in drifting ice in the Sea of Okhotsk, about 24 kilometers from the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The Japanese Coast Guard sent a rescue icebreaker to the Russian tanker, but it was not possible to free the ship before nightfall.
There were no casualties reported on board the tanker.
