The plane shot down on Dzyaman’s orders was not a combat one
The Investigative Committee of Russia demanded arrest in absentia in a terrorism case for Colonel Nikolai Dzyaman, serving in the air defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the department clarifiedthat on February 23, 2024, Russian airspace was patrolled by one of the Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft. The plane had no weapons and was not combat. However, Dzyaman, despite this, ordered his subordinates to destroy him.
According to the investigation, Colonel Dzyaman, realizing that the aircraft in question was not intended for combat operations, had no weapons, and the flight took place exclusively in the airspace of the Russian Federation, gave an illegal order to his subordinate military personnel to destroy it
The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out the order. As a result, the Russian plane was destroyed, all ten crew members were killed.

The downed plane could have been the unique Russian “flying radar” A-50U
How writes “Kommersant”, in the case of a colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine we are talking about the destruction of an A-50U aircraft over the Krasnodar Territory.
Commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Nikolai Oleshchuk stated that the “flying radar” of the Russian Aerospace Forces was shot down on February 23. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine clarified that the A-50U is a new modernized version of the aircraft worth $350 million.
There was no official confirmation of the crash from the Russian Ministry of Defense. However, as noted on website Government of the Ivanovo region, on March 30 in the city of Ivanovo they said goodbye to the Ivanovo pilots who died in the line of military duty during a special military operation.
All ten members of the A-50 crew were awarded the Order of Courage posthumously. State awards were handed over to the families of the fallen heroes, the regional authorities noted.
The modernized A-50U long-range radar detection and control aircraft (AWACS) was transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces in September 2023.
The A-50U received new monitors, electronics and a flight and navigation system. Ergonomics have also been improved to reduce crew fatigue.
In January, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that modernized A-50U aircraft helped detect the majority of destroyed Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters.
The “flying radar” can monitor aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, and surface objects at a distance of 310 kilometers, said military analyst Alexey Sukonkin.
The vessel can spend about eight hours in the air without refueling, and with crew changes and refueling, the aircraft can perform missions for 24 hours. The range of the radar station on the A-50U is limited only by the curvature of the Earth’s surface. The expert admitted that the Russian Aerospace Forces will take care of this aircraft.
