The armed robbery of 400,000 euros in a lottery administration in Lugo has taken an unexpected turn after six months of investigations. The lottery player who on January 4 recounted in great detail the eight minutes in which two masked men entered his establishment to take this important sum has been arrested this Tuesday for his alleged participation in the events, according to police sources. The arrest of the person responsible for the business occurred after the arrest of two other people in Madrid, a man and a woman, as alleged perpetrators of the robbery. The investigators have reached the lottery after taking statements from the two main suspects and carrying out other procedures, the same sources add. The person responsible for the lottery office is in the National Police cells waiting to be brought to justice, along with the other two arrested. “The investigation is still open and in the next few hours or days it may bring some news,” declared the spokesperson for the National Police in Lugo, Manuel Arias Veiga.
The alleged robbery occurred on January 4 early in the morning at a lottery administration located on Lamas de Prado Street, in the city of Lugo. According to the testimony of the person in charge of the business, who recounted his experience to the media that same day, the thieves broke in covered in balaclavas when he had the blinds half open and managed to take the loot after threatening him and pointing a gun at him.
The lottery said that just that day he was going to go to the bank to make a “very important” payment of 230,000 euros, which he had pending since last week, corresponding to the Christmas Lottery bill. “They took everything. They even took bank checks that they cannot cash,” he said then. A group of lotteries assured that it was not common for administrations to keep that amount of money in their safes, and that these establishments currently comply with very high security levels, similar to those of a bank.
After the robbery, the lottery operator was investigated for the robbery, but those proceedings were archived and at this time he was not involved, according to police sources. The crimes for which he is being investigated have not been specified by these sources. During this time, the investigations have continued until in recent days they found the trail of the alleged perpetrators of the robbery and he was arrested in Madrid.
The case fell into the hands of the magistrate of the Investigative Court Number 2 of Lugo. In April, the investigating judge stated in a ruling that there were “sufficient reasons to accuse certain person or persons as perpetrators, accomplices or accessories” of that robbery, which is why she rejected some of the requests from the Judicial Police, such as asking telephone companies the geolocation of mobile phones or information about certain bank accounts, according to Efe. The judge warned in her brief of a “possible violation of the right of defense” of the lottery player in police stations, “prior to the judicialization of the case,” since they took “a statement from him on successive occasions as a complainant, even when there were already suspicions” about he.
On the same day of the event, the detainee said that the assailants told him that if he collaborated they would not harm him: “They told me ‘we are going to lock you up, I don’t want nonsense, I don’t want you to move.’ We know where you work. We come for you. We are Colombians, we come for the money, if you behave well, we are not going to do anything to you,” he stated.

Several National Police patrols went to the administration and began to gather information to investigate an event that, half a year later, has turned against the person who was believed to be the most harmed.
