Nolan Ryan retired having struck out 5 thousand 714 battersin a career that began in the 1966 campaign and ended in 1993.
To put this legendary mark in context, no other pitcher in history has reached 5,000 strikeouts, as second on the list behind Ryan is Randy Johnsonwhich got 4 thousand 875.
Ryan’s career is one of the most successful of all time, as he was 8 times All Star, champion of the World Series in 19692-time NL ERA leader, 11-time strikeout leaderhis number 34 was retired by both the Angels, Rams and Astros, in addition to being a member of the Hall of Fame.

The only award he ever won was the prestigious Cy Young, which names the best pitcher in each league.
