Over the weekend the news came that Sayaka Kanda, Note actress and voice actress Japanese who has worked quite intensively also in the videogame field as the voice of several videogame characters, is dead suddenly at the age of 35 in Sapporo, Japan.
That same day she was supposed to play the role of Eliza Doolittle in a performance of My Fair Lady, but she was replaced at the last minute due to what appeared to be just a sick leave. In reality, unfortunately, the actress was found dead in the late morning of Saturday 18 December 2021, falling from the fourteenth floor of the hotel where she was staying.
At the moment there are investigations ongoing, but local authorities strongly suspect it is suicide, although the possibility of an accident is not ruled out.
Sayaka Kanda was the daughter of the well-known actor Masaki Kanda and the famous singer Seiko Matsuda, she had debuted in 1998 and had a career full of different activities, from television shows to theater to dubbing, an area in which she often worked also for video games.
In 2015 it had won the Seiyu Award as the best voice for the work done in the Japanese edition of Frozen, while as regards video games he had taken part in the dubbing of Kingdom Hearts 3 in the role of Anna and other collaborations. In the anime field, she is also remembered for Yuna in Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld and Kaede Akamatsu in Danganronpa V3.
“It is with extreme sadness that we announce her death to her fans and those who supported her,” Kanda’s press office wrote after the news, “We are still unable to accept her death and try to process it.”
