War never changes. Certain speeches, not even: Fallout 4 pointed to because of a shooting.
In itself, the news story is dramatic: we are talking about a shooting which took place in an American school in the city of Oxford, Michigan, on November 30, the most tragic effect of which was the death of three students. It doesn’t take much, however, for someone to create alarmism and vulgar sensationalism out of thin air: an American site blames a video game for what happened.
By now, to point out video games as evil incarnate when something so terrible happens it is almost practice: just a ‘like’ on Facebook to a game page, or the presence of a game installed on the computer of someone who later reveals to have links with terrorist cells (who remembers when Assassin’s Creed Unity was called “terrorist attack simulator at the Louvre “from TG4? ed), but the new story is based on something even more sensational.
The video, also shared on Twitter by Jeff Grubb and Benji-Sales, reads the exact words (with a merciless prosody, full of sensationalism): “A post by Ethan Crumbley (the boy who did the shooting) declared ‘Now I have become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds. See you tomorrow, Oxford ‘! The quote can be found in a bloody video game! “, before putting a scene belonging to a Fallout 4 DLC in which a character recites such words.
One of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen from a news outlet
Like ……. how can you not know the context of that quote and that it doesn’t originate from a video game

There is only one detail that the American site, Inside Edition, did not calculate: “Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds”, it’s definitely not an original Fallout 4 line. It’s a quote from Robert Oppenheimer, the head of the Manhattan project, i.e. the creation of the atomic bomb. The phrase was uttered in an interview after the end of the Second World War, in which the physicist is completely devastated by the realization of his contribution to the project – you can see it at the bottom.
Inside Edition’s display of frustrating ignorance is, in some ways, emblematic of the way in which not only video games are treated, but also extremely serious and topical situations and discussions such as those of the freedom of possession of firearms and their easy retrieval. in the United States and the psychic conditions that are overlooked all too often.
