Dubai Customs announced that it has completed the radiation assessment project for container scanning devices in customs centers, which has the ability to detect and locate radioactive materials.
The project aims to ensure the safety of workers in the customs inspection sector, and implement the requirements and conditions of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation in the country.
The Director of the Administrative Affairs Department, Nasser Bu Hamer, said that the radiation assessment process of the 10 customs container scanning devices demonstrates the department’s commitment to the authority’s requirements and the leadership’s keenness on the health and safety of employees working in the customs inspection sector.
He pointed out that the results of the evaluation of the devices and their management mechanism are among the main requirements that will contribute to Dubai Customs obtaining a permanent license from the Authority.
He stated that the Department of Administrative Affairs, in cooperation with partners, is working to develop and implement the highest standards and best global practices to ensure continued progress in performing our vital mission of protecting society, facilitating trade and facilitating tourism, in support of Dubai’s development and sustainable economic growth.
Dubai Customs recently announced that it has equipped Jebel Ali and Tecom Customs Centers with an advanced system, the first of its kind in the world, to inspect heavy and light vehicles, large equipment and yachts via X-ray scanning. This increases the center’s ability to double inspection operations, speeds up procedures, supports the flow of business and trade, and enhances the position of Jebel Ali Port, the largest in the Middle East and one of the most important seaports in the world. The device reduces inspection time from about six hours to five minutes. The device operates in two operating modes: fixed, where the vehicle is stopped, and mobile, where it is scanned while passing through the device.
It also has the ability to detect and locate radioactive materials, and identify the customs declaration through the container number. It is characterized by remote control, image analysis and appropriate decision-making.
