Binotto-Audi, it’s official
Mattia Binotto’s return to F1 is now official. The Italian manager, who left Ferrari at the end of the controversial 2022 season, has been officially appointed as new Chief Operating Officer and Technical Director of Sauber Motorsport AGThe group will then be definitively acquired by Audi, which as is known will take over the Hinwil team in 2026, transforming it into its own ‘factory’ team.
The market ‘bomb’ is double, however, because Binotto’s arrival coincides with the sensational farewell of Andreas Seidlformer McLaren team principal who was initially chosen by Audi to lead the F1 project. The former top manager of the Woking team is not the only figure to say goodbye to the House of the Rings. Also leaving Ingolstadt will be Oliver Hoffmann, now former Managing Director of the group.
Operational from 1st August
The official press release, issued by Audi, states that Binotto will enter the ‘office’ starting from August 1st of this year, thus leading the entire transition that will lead to the team’s long-awaited ‘change of identity’. “As part of the complete acquisition of all shares of Sauber Holding AG and the associated realignment of the control structure – we read in the official note – The management of the future Audi factory team is now being renewed. On August 1, former F1 team boss Mattia Binotto will join the Audi F1 project and take over the helm in HinwiL”.
