Mortal Kombat Mobile could be a failure. This is what seems to emerge from the words of Tony Lazzarashared on his LinkedIn account.
Unfortunately, yesterday NetherRealm Mobile Team it’s been shut down. A lot of very talented people are out of work.
It seems in fact that the American studio was hit by a series of layoffs which mainly affected the department that handled the porting of NetherRealm’s major IPs to mobile.
As Tony Lazzara himself, one of the many victims of the mass layoffs, recalls, among the titles dealt with were Mortal Kombat Mobile, Injustice 2 And Mortal Kombat Onslaught. However, the fame of the IPs was not enough to keep a sector afloat, which evidently did not take off as the software house expected.
Lazzara was certainly not the only one to report the incident: also Anthony DeFrancescosoftware engineer, it was said “sad” of being looking for a new job.

This wave of layoffs, which Insider Gaming reports being of 50 unitswould be part of a wider operation involving Warner Bros. Discovery which, in 2024, has already had to face the failure of the project Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
And looking at it all, even from a broader perspective, it is clear that these layoffs are a tragic consequence of the state of the industry that, in 2024 alone, left at home more than 10 thousand people.
