The Kremlin said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit North Korea tomorrow, Tuesday and the day after Wednesday, in an extremely rare visit.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un extended an invitation to Putin during a visit to the far east of Russia last September. Putin has not visited Pyongyang since July 2000.
The Russian presidency stated, “At the invitation of the Head of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong Un, Vladimir Putin will pay an official goodwill visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on June 18 and 19.”
The Kremlin said that Putin will visit Vietnam on June 19-20 after visiting North Korea.
The United States and its allies say that North Korea has provided Russia with weapons to help it fight in Ukraine, but North Korea has repeatedly denied these accusations, describing them as a fantasy invented by Western prosecutors.
