Racism|The teenagers disturbed Vimmy Sysikaske on the bus ride and mocked him. Syskaski did not remain inactive, but described the situation and filed a criminal complaint.
The summary is made by artificial intelligence and checked by a human.
Vimmy Sysikaski, who moved to Finland from Southeast Asia, was subjected to racist barking on a bus trip in Turku.
The 14-year-olds behaved in a disruptive manner and mocked Syskaske.
Syskaski filed a criminal complaint about what happened.
Markku Alpimaa, cultural coordinator of Turku city’s multicultural work, hopes that people will intervene in such situations.
Last who traveled home by bus from the center of Turku on Tuesday of the week Vimmy Syskaski got into a threatening situation where the young people barked at Syskaski and mocked him racially.
Sysikaski, who moved to Finland from Southeast Asia in January, says that while living in Turku, he has experienced situations where he has been treated disrespectfully because of his ethnic background. However, according to him, these situations have been relatively harmless. Syskaski cites as examples that a few men have followed him and behaved in a disturbing manner, and children have called him “Chinese”.
“Now the situation was so violent that I filed a criminal complaint.”
Two girls of around 14 and two boys of the same age were sitting in the front part of the bus. Sysikaski says that right from the start of the trip, the young people behaved in a disruptive manner, for example littering and being loud. As the trip progressed, Sysikaski, who was focused on his own affairs, ended up being the apple of the Teens’ eye.
“One of the girls showed me the cross-eyed sign. One of the boys also did the “suck my dick” movement.”
Syskaski says that the girl stretched her eyes from the outer corners with her fingers. Another of the boys bounced his hand up and down at the crotch area.
“They tried to make me react, but I just stayed calm the whole way,” says Sysikaski.
The teenagers called him stupid and retarded, showed the middle finger and repeated “fuck you” in English.
Barking just continued, so Sysikaski took out his phone and decided to record the events on video. HS has seen a video where young people cover their faces and become silent for a moment. The video shows how, after the bus stop, the girls start walking towards the back of the bus, where Sysikaski is sitting. Completely unexpectedly for Sysikaski, one of the girls roars in Sysikaski’s face, to which he reacts in a startled manner by pushing the youngster away from close range.
“What the hell are you pushing, you damn cripple?” the girl screams in the video.
Syskaski states that he is satisfied with the fact that this unpleasant situation fell right on him. He explains that he wants to do something about it so that similar situations can be avoided in the future. Sysikaski filed a criminal complaint about the case, and in addition, he found out the youth’s school, where Sysikaski sent the message in the hope that Teinien’s parents would also be reached.
Sysikaski says that one of the four boys did not join in the mischief, but followed the situation quietly. The other passengers and the driver also remained quiet, which Sysikaski is upset about. He feels that Finns often do not intervene in situations where intervention is needed.
Syskaski called his spouse For Mikko Syskaske as the bus journey draws to a close. The man went to meet his wife at the bus stop to wait.
“I was worried about his safety,” says Mikko Sysikaski.
Turku cultural coordinator of the city’s multicultural work Markku Alpimaa hopes that in situations like this, people on the spot would not be content to watch the events from the sidelines, but would do something.
“You don’t have to pay attention to yellers. It’s enough if you just go and sit next to the person who is being mocked. Being present can show that the victim is not alone in the situation,” says Alpimaa.
He thinks that racist behavior often tells first of all about the person’s own bad mood and thoughtlessness. Alpimaa understands that for some people, increased immigration and meeting new kinds of people can cause adjustment difficulties, but this should not appear as bad behavior.
“Hopefully, in a few years, young people who have behaved racistly will be able to be ashamed of the situation,” says Alpimaa.
Correction 17.6. at 1:59 p.m.: Sysikaski’s name was in the title of the story in an incorrect form before, Syskoski.
